Documentary | Tibet 106’

This clutch of quietly moving episodes in the lives of Tibetans in exile is often shocking but always engaging and fabulously filmed with its revealing stories from this land with an uncertain future and shrouded in mystery.

A first feature-length compendium in the Tibetan language it comprises four shorts, two of them with the 90 year old Dalai Lama himself, and is directed by various Tibetans based in India, United States and Vietnam who elegantly convey the collective fear that their nation will be engulfed by China once the spiritual leader has gone. A little more background detail would have been welcome.

STATE OF STATELESSNESS is in UK cinemas from 16 January
