Dir/Writer| Orson Welles Cast: Orson Wells, Paul Van Eyck, Michael Redgrave | US 93’

“Now there’s a flawed masterpiece!!” barked Orson Welles when reminded of this film by Alan Yentob in 1982.
Written and directed by Orson Welles it follows an elusive billionaire who hires an American smuggler to investigate his past, leading to a dizzying descent into a cold-war European landscape.
Like ‘Kane’, a study of power going to a man’s head. Although frankly a bit mess, of all the films Welles later made this is probably the most enjoyable, as it dashes about the world, full of entertaining cameos and with an energetic score by Paul Misraki.
