The 47th Cairo International Film Festival (11–20 November) is attracting an impressive international line-up for its 50th anniversary edition.

Among the notable names expected in Cairo are Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, Italian director Matteo Garrone, Mauritanian filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako, Moroccan-French director Nabil Ayouch and Spanish filmmaker Óliver Laxe.

Garrone and Sissako are among this year’s Golden Pyramid Lifetime Achievement recipients, with Sissako also scheduled to give a masterclass. Ayouch will head the International Competition jury, which includes Egyptian actress Ghada Adel, Belgian director Laura Wandel and Syrian-German filmmaker Ameer Fakher Eldin.

Egyptian actor Asser Yassin will receive the Faten Hamama Award for Excellence, while screenwriter Medhat El-Adl and cinematographer Saeed Shimi will also be honoured for their contributions to cinema.

With 145 films from 64 countries, including 17 world premieres, Cairo is clearly aiming for a memorable anniversary celebration, bringing together established international talent and a broad selection of contemporary world cinema.
