Dir: Tom Martienssen | UK doc 82’ | narrated by Tom Hardy.

A newborn black rhino makes its graceful appearance in the opening of this moving nature documentary set on the widescreen with magnificent images. With only six thousand of its kind left on the planet one ranger has made it his mission to protect the species from poachers and extinction against the odds.

Tom Martienssen’s tense eco-thriller follows Kiloku and his team stealthily moving through the Kenyan bush where they have set up a sanctuary and not lost a single rhino in the last ten years.

Now poaching is on the decline. Nature has reversed the trend with growing numbers of belligerent male rhinos running out of space in the sanctuary and killing each other in their fight for territory. The rhinos are also being  hemmed in by ruthless bandits desperate for their valuable tusks.

So Kiloku has teamed up with another specialised ranger called Rita to launch a courageous plan. Together they attempt to move a herd of twenty one rhinos across the country to open a new safe haven sixty miles to the West.

Rhino highlights the audacious efforts of these rangers who risks their lives in a daily struggle to protect biodiversity. With its minimal dialogue and impressive wildlife insight Rhino is a unique eco-thriller that tells a tale of resilience and victory in the fight to save our natural world. A gripping watch for anyone keen on animal conservation and wildlife photography. @Meredith Taylor
