The new Grand Egyptian Museum is the biggest archaeological museum in the world. Showcasing around 100,000 artefacts from some seven millennia of the country’s history, the museum serves as a tribute to Egypt’s already monumental cultural offering to the World.
The Grand Egyptian Museum, near to the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo, now houses the entire contents of the intact tombs of the boy king Tutankhamun, discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter, and the 4,500 funerary boat Khufu, in addition to the other treasures already displayed to the public since 2024.

The inauguration of this museum is the culmination of a generations-long dream and a message to the entire world that Egypt, with its rich history, continues to captivate humanity with its creativity and its ability to preserve its heritage and present it in its most splendid form. It is a window through which the future looks upon the greatness of the past.

Cairo International Film Festival is keen to extend special appreciation to the artist Farouk Hosny, the former Minister of Culture, along with Dublin-based architects responsible for the buiding’s conception and design.
