The Anderson Tapes (1971)

July 4th, 2025
Author: Meredith Taylor

Dir: Sydney Lumet | Cast: Sean Connery, Dyan Cannon , Martin Balsam | US Thriller 1971

The second film of the fruitful collaboration between Sean Connery and Sydney Lumet was superficially their most conventional film, with familiar actors – buoyed by Connery’s star power – masquerading as a simple heist movie, but employing techniques that anticipates both the Watergate tapes and ‘The Conversation’ in its employment of sound and visually ‘The Blair Witch Project’ in its use of found footage to create a continuous narrative. The film is scored by Quincy Jones and is also notable for marking the feature film debut of Christopher Walken

In many ways ahead of its time, it remains if anything more relevant today with its emphasis on the increasing intrusion into people’s lives of ever-present surveillance technology. @RichardChatten
