Dir: Momoko Seto | Animation 76’
Enchanting is often used to describe animated films but this little gem really is gorgeous to watch wafting us gently on a dandelion seed’s journey from the moment it breaks free from the main cluster and floats into the atmosphere.
There are over 250 species of dandelion in the British Isles alone and this delightful dialogue-free film follows four seeds ‘friends’ as they are transported aloft escaping an apocalyptic event on Earth and are hurtled into the cosmos travelling through planets and constellations to land on an unknown planet where they are bound to find a new home as the tufted seeds bob about in icy landscapes and fresh green pastures where they come face to face with a giant toad, a slug and a tadpole and encounter a few surprises on the way.
In a similar vein to recent hits The Wild Robot and Flow this new edition to the animation genre is mesmerising and deeply relaxing with its broad appeal to all generations and its placid narrative and softly rendered message of hope that riffs on the theme of migration, discovery and new beginnings. @MeredithTaylor
