Dir/Wri: Felix Dufour-Laperriere | Animation Canada 71’
Death Does Not Exist an upcoming Canadian-French animated drama follows Hélène, an activist who abandons her colleagues after they fail in an armed attack against a wealthy target; isolated in the wilderness, she becomes haunted by Manon, a former member of the group who challenges Hélène to reconsider her values and convictions.
Felix Dufour-Laperriere opts for muted sepia and olive greens in his delicately rendered visuals but it’s the sinister score that blends electronic and exotic animal soundscape that really transports us to a mysterious land full of exotic birds and plants where Helene is haunted by Manon and her fears of the past and the violence that led to the tragedy in this thrilling apocalyptic film with its layered narrative that evokes all the fears and dangers of the world we live in @MeredithTaylor
